The NIST ITL Computer Security Division hosted
Dr. Sarbari Gupta presents on the topic of “Implantable Medical Devices – Cyber Risks and Mitigation Approaches” at the 2012 NIST Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) Workshop April 27, 2012

The NIST ITL Computer Security Division hosted the 2012 Cyber-Physical Systems Workshop on April 23-24 in Gaithersburg, MD. The workshop focused on results of research on cyber-physical systems and real-world deployment experiences. Dr. Gupta presented on the topic of IT risks related to the use of Implantable Medical Devices (IMDs) and potential mitigation approaches.

The presentation focused on the widespread deployment of implantable medical devices (IMDs) and the increasing risk of cyber threats (whether malicious or unintentional) because of wireless access to these devices. The presentation explored the risks associated with various IMDs from the cyber environment and proposed security and privacy measures to mitigate these risks.
