NIST Awards Electrosoft a CAPSS Task Order for Digital Identity Services October 7, 2024

Electrosoft announced today that the National Institute of Standards and Technology has awarded the company a new task order on the Cybersecurity and Privacy Support Services (CAPSS) IDIQ, for digital identity services. Among other tasks, the company will support the finalization of NIST Special Publication 800-63, revision 4, Digital Identity Guidelines. Electrosoft has supported NIST since 2001 on a variety of standards, guidelines, and framework development efforts in the areas of identity management and cybersecurity.

“NIST’s digital identity guidance is essential to the quickly evolving digital landscape, helping to protect users by ensuring that digital identity systems are secure and robust,” said Dr. Sarbari Gupta, CEO of Electrosoft. “We are honored to continue our support of the NIST Digital Identity Program and the ongoing evolution of Digital Identity Guidelines, which focuses on providing foundational risk management processes and requirements that enable the implementation of secure, private, equitable, and accessible identity systems.”

In addition to the finalization of SP 800-63-4, this task order encompasses:

  • Development of implementation resources for the Digital Identity Guidelines and leading practices related to digital identity.
  • NIST international standardization for digital identity management.
  • Development of interoperability profiles for federation, authentication, and credential specifications.

Electrosoft’s support will include foundational and applied research to better understand new and emerging technologies, their impact on existing standards, and the implementation of Digital Identity solutions. The team will assist the development of national and international Identity and Access Management standards, guidance, best practices, profiles, and frameworks to create an enhanced, interoperable suite of secure, privacy-enhancing technologies.

Electrosoft has been involved with the Digital Identity Program going back to when it was called National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC), where the charter was to create an “Identity Ecosystem” where users can choose from a variety of identity providers and digital credentials to allow for secure and privacy-enhancing online transactions.
